However I forgot that the hub was in Dubai and the majority of the OFWs (overseas Filipino workers) were stationed there. The duty-free shop was overrun with Filipino workers selling cell phones and perfume. Meanwhile, I wanted to slash my wrist at the thought of being trapped in a plane with all of them.

While I was on the plane (where the seats were so small I had bruises on my legs), my only consolation was the entertainment on the small flat screen in front of me. But it was busted, so I heaved a sigh, popped my sleeping pills and dozed off to the sounds of gum chewing and endless yelling of “HOY! Kumusta ka na? At taga sann ka? Domestic helper ka rin ba?” Translation: “Hey there? Where are you from? Are you a domestic helper as well?” I thought I had died and God had sent me to my very own private hell.

On my way back, I had to bravely take the economy flight once more. This time I had already resigned myself to being trapped like a sardine in a sardine can with all these OFWs smelling of AXE and Charlie cologne while Jo Malone evaporated into thin air.

I read this article from other multiply users. The first thing that came to my mind right after reading it -- "ahh..baka hoaxed lang like those other articles in the past". I decided to google it on the internet and then -- WHAM! Totoo pala!

Many netizens were/are still -- mad at her. Some of them even commented na "nakakataas alta presyon daw". I'm not mad at her but I felt bad after reading it. It was so irresponsible of her. The HELL if she's a good writer! What she said in that column made me realized that people like HER really do exist in this world. She told everybody that some people told her that what she wrote was funny and amusing. There was nothing FUNNY sa sinulat niya. It was actually degrading to most FILIPINOS.

Why?

Ilang percentage ba ng FILIPINO now ang OFW? Ilang OFW ba ang nagtitiis mapalayo sa family nila just to send their kids to a good school and put foods sa table nila everyday? MALIIT man ang kinikita ng mga OFW but at least they're doing something WORTHY for the sake of their FAMILY and this COUNTRY.

How about this MALU FERNANDEZ? She's probably rich, maraming business and she earns well since writer siya (siguro nga kasi she can travel from BORA to GREECE) but malaki ba nacocontribute niya sa COUNTRY natin? HELL NO! She's a writer...YES pero an irresponsible one.

If she thinks na matatawa ang mga readers niya sa sinulat niya --- then she's a sick, twisted lunatic. Sino matutuwa don? She offended all the OFWs and their families just so she could write a GREAT article from her BORA and GREECE days.

Hello! Reality check Ms.Malu Fernandez, bibilib na sana ako syo because you're a good writer. I'm pretty sure you came from a good school and maybe old money na rin kayo but what you just did made me SICK. I know a lot of people who could travel from BORA to GREECE anytime they want, pero they're not like you. They're proud to be FILIPINOS and they won't even try to make fun of those OFWs sa plane.

Most of what I read online, sabi nila you're a FAT BITCH, A BIGOT and A SOCIAL CLIMBER GONE WRONG -- Dapat hindi ka nila niLABEL ng ganon because it's MEAN and some of them even used DEROGATORY words pero I don't BLAME them kasi you started BASHING the FILIPINOS....even if you just did it for the sake of writing a so-called FUNNY article about your trip. WALANG NAKAKATUWA SA SINULAT MO. When I read it --- If not for your excellent grammar....I thought I was reading an article made by CHER played by Alicia Silverstone from the movie CLUELESS. Come to think of it ... If you're really that RICH, an ELITIST then why the HELL did you choose ECONOMY CLASS? Why not rent a private plane kung walang FIRST CLASS para hindi ka magalusan or hindi sumakit ang nose mo kakaamoy sa AXE.

My father once worked his ass off in Finland and in other European countries, my tatay was an OFW from Saudi Arabia, my Tita used to work at a Royal Luxury Cruise as a Cabin Crew before settling in New Jersey, same goes to my other tita who is currently in US – all of them are/were OFWs. You're INTELLIGENT (I give you that -- or else hindi ka makakasulat ng ganon article) BUT right after reading your ARTICLE -- My IQ just dropped 100pts. My ADVICE -- try going down sa PEDESTAL mo and SMELL your SHIT once in while so you would know how RUDE and UNCLASSY your article was.

Statement from Malu Fernandez on the OFW Controversy

I am humbled by the vehement and heated response provoked by my article entitled ‘From Boracay to Greece!’ which came out in the June 2007 issue of People Asia. To say that this article was not meant to malign, hurt or express prejudice against the OFWs now sounds hollow after reading through all the blogs from Filipinos all over the world. I am deeply apologetic for my insensitivity and the offensive manner in which this article was written, I hear you all and I am properly rebuked. It was truly not my intention to malign hurt or express prejudice against OFWs.

As the recent recipient and target of death threats, hate blogs, and deeply personal insults, I now truly understand the insidiousness of discrimination and prejudice disguised as humor. Our society is bound together by human chains of kindness and decency. I have failed to observe this and I am now reaping the consequences of my actions. It is my fervent hope that the lessons that Ive learned are not lost on all those who through anonymous blogs, engaged in bigotry, discrimination, and hatred ( against overweight individuals , for example )

I take full responsibility for my actions and my friends and family have nothing to do with this. To date I have submitted my resignation letters to both the Manila Standard and People Asia, on that note may this matter be laid to rest.

My Sinister Rants About Wendy Valdez And PBB

Okay...I'm not saying that everything that I'm going to say here is based from hard facts. I'm just going to share my opinion regarding this person and the show that made history this year.

I am not an avid fan of PBB but my family likes watching the show. They are what I call "MAKAPAMILYA" because they like watching shows from ABS-CBN. As far as I can remember, they have been an avid fan of the station until PBB 2 happened.

Most of us were pretty disappointed because the show was obviously pulling a lot of "gimiks". Most of their "gimiks" for the audience was about 1 certain person. A woman named Wendy Valdez. This girl was a nobody before but became a household name within 4 months. I noticed a lot of loopholes from this season maybe that's why I've been analyzing the whole situation.

Wendy Valdez was evicted after 3 months but out of nowhere the PBB decided to bring her back. She got the lowest votes during her eviction night. It was so unexpected when Wendy got evicted that night. Saicy was even shocked that the people chose her to stay instead. During those times, it was obvious that Wendy was not well-loved by the people. She doesn't have many supporters.

Since Wendy was the "kontrabida" inside the house...big brother suddenly realized DAMN!!!puro WHOLESOME na ang housemates...therefore no more issues to stir up. He needed someone inside who can make the PBB season 2 controversial. He needed the WENDY type. So he looked at the BIG BLACK BOOK of PBB (lol) and reviewed the past BBs. He found out that from other countries, they used to bring back old housemates inside the BB house.

...And because of that he had an idea. He will bring back Wendy Valdez inside the house. He will choose 3 other housemates to be in the running for the so-called "BALIK BAHAY". He chose Wendy, Zeke, Kian and Jasmine. Out of nowhere he chose 4 new housemates. Out of nowhere.

Why did BB chose these 4? In my own opinion, he could have chosen Dionne (even if she just got out of the house). Zeke and Kian was a good choice BUT he should have also considered Jeremy in the list. Why WENDY? They need her personality inside the BB house.

I was shocked when they announced that Wendy Valdez got the highest in the "BALIK BAHAY" gimik. How did that happen? Why all of a sudden the people decided to vote for her and gave her a chance again to enter PBB house? 2 REASONS:

1.) People realized that they LOVE Wendy (which is so unbelievable since she got evicted already. The people voted her out of the 3 other housemates to be evicted.)

2.) The ratings when she left was really low and the PBB needed her so they pulled some strings.

How? I don't think they manipulated the text votes but they probably spent a lot of money texting for her that's why all of a sudden she's the highest among the rest.

...They found out the reaction of the people. Most of the people were disappointed and shocked that she got in. Since Wendy Valdez and a certain housemate have this "love thing" going on, they decided to make an issue out of it. Inviting their exes, conjuring more issues inside the house, adding a background sountrack in every thing they did inside the house etc.

As time passed by, the viewers got irritated each day of Wendy Valdez. Personally, I think PBB saw a star in the making, a "kontrabida" at its best. They edited every episode to stir up more troubles inside the house. The people from 24/7 was mad at Wendy Valdez but the PBB kept her image clean during PRIMETIME. They needed to make sure that Wendy Valdez will still be inside the PBB until the BIG NIGHT. Why? Again....Wendy was their money bag.

BB decided to conjured a fight between the 3 girls left inside the house. It could have been prevented but they didn't do anything. Why? It was a sure way to heat up the audience against WENDY VALDEZ. The fans of the 2 other housemates voted everything they got just so WENDY won't win the prize. The fans of the remaining housemates united into 1 common goal - to evict Wendy. They scattered their votes to those other housemates. A WRONG MOVE. Why (again)? because that assurred wendy's position in the BIG 4.

PBB saw how fans were eager to spend money just to eliminate Wendy. People started watching the show just to see how bad she is. People started posting comments in forums making bad publicity BUT BAD PUBLICITY in any reality shows are GOOD PUBLICITY. It goes to show that people are watching the show. They are talking about it nonstop therefore advertisement started coming in. MONEY is flowing nonstop. In entertainment world, anything or anyone with issues regardless if it's bad or good is perfect as long as it sells. PUBLICITY = MONEY.

Therefore...Wendy is a vital factor inside the house. She's bad and she's mean. People hate her but she sells the show really well. The show needs to support her. They need to make sure that she's in BIG 4.

A lot of the "nice" housemate got eliminated. During the BIG 4, people were heated up because Wendy is still there...not her choice...but she was happy she got in.

The reaction of the people everywhere was an obvious proof that they wanted her OUT. The big question that night was....HOWCOME SHE WAS PART OF THE BIG 4?

Answer: Her supporters have been voting for her inspite of her bad attitude inside the house.

QUESTION: Who are here supporters? I mean come on...we all know na meron but I don't think they would spend 1.2 Million pesos for her.

Answer: Yes, they would. Her supporters are her friends, her family, her relatives, fans who like her attitude BUT I don't think her votes will reached as high as 1.2 Million.

Why? For the fact that the people hated her. Everywhere you go....it was an impossible thing.
Then who are her supporters???

Answer: THOSE RICH PEOPLE...huh???

Rich people??? why would they do that? Well for MONEY.

In my own opinion, PBB provided MONEY for her. They were the one who voted for her. They spent big bucks for her. WHY????

Answer: TO MAKE HISTORY IN TELEVISION....

Think about it...during season 1, celebrity edition and teen edition, maraming viewers but the votes that were casted hindi umabot ng 5 million votes. NOW...it reached 5 million votes, why? because they took advantage of the Wendy Valdez issue.

They voted for her and spent let's say 500,000 php to assure her big 4 position and let her fans vote the other half....just so the 3 other remaining big 4 contenders would spend BIG BUCKS. Ganito lang yan....pinalaki nila ang stakes ng PBB Season 2. Parang sugal. They raised the bar through Wendy Valdez, they spent big bucks for her so....ang tao mataranta na maraming supporters si Ms. Valdez and therefore...kailangan double effort for the 3 other remaining housemates....NO WONDER UMABOT NG 1 MILLION VOTES BAWAT ISANG HOUSEMATE.

NAGHABULAN SILA. A perfect way to earn big bucks for this season.

Now you're thinking why maraming nagvote kay Wendy Valdez. I'm pretty sure iilan lang din sila and meron lang consistent "voters" mataas magbigay para ang mga FANATICS ng 3 other housemates HUMABOL including ang mga viewers na naiinis kay WENDY VALDEZ.

She got the 3rd place through the help of those people inside the SHOW. Tulong na nila yon for her since tinulungan din sila sa ratings. They will vote for her para walang manipulations. They will just spent money for her. What's a few moolah here and there for a HUGE rating di ba? Obviously, she can't be the winner...why? people will hate her even more and pwede magkagulo. I don't think gusto rin yon ng nasa SHOW. It will be a HISTORY in the making and a DISASTER in the making as well.

Bottomline...I pity Wendy Valdez when she got booed during the BIG NIGHT. I know she made mistakes inside the house and I know na she's a bit insincere in most of her actions pero I don't hate her. I feel sorry for her because now that PBB Is over...SHE has to face all the accusations and hatred of the Filipino People....AND she has to do it ALONE. Maybe may kapalit na pera but it's so degrading para marining mo na how much you are HATED by the people. I feel sorry for her kasi I feel na she's been used and abused by the SHOW.

They saw her weaknesses. They saw her potential to be hated by everyone and at the same time they saw na pwede siyang pagkakitaan. They exploited her through the bad things and words she said inside the house. In a way, they made her absolutely bitchy inside the house so people would generate issues here and magkaron ng publicity ang show.

Now she's enduring all the bad reviews and issues sa kanya. I pity her and her family kasi they had to suffer the bad side of ROTTEN TELEVISION. Whether she knows na she was used or not, binayaran sya or not to conjured issues...siya pa rin ang kawawa in the end because nagpagamit siya sa SHOW for the RATINGS.

But then again...I guess pwedeng isipin niya na it's worth it kasi buhay na ang pamilya niya.

In this season....Beatriz Saw won...which was what the people wanted. It could have been Mickey Perz ...It was a tough battle. Wendy won 3rd place and was booed. PBB earned millions even if they have a lot of BAD PUBLICITY. THEY ARE THE TRUE WINNERS. BAWI ANG GASTOS NILA.

IMHO, I don't think magkakaron pa ng PBB after this. Kung magkaron man matatagalan pa and they would think of something really WICKED para magkaron na naman ng HISTORY in the MAKING. 5 MILLION Votes this YEAR ... I wonder how many naman next season....(take note hindi ganon kadaling gumastos non...imagine the fans after this...they went penniless kakahabol sa votes).

Question lang...Why hindi umakyat ng stage si Direk Dyogi? I watched it and ang andon was yung mga hosts and the ABS CBN EXECS. why??? Is he scared sa reaction ng tao? Or baka magkaron din ng same treatment katulad kay Ms. Wendy Valdez? Hmmm....Kung wala namang dapat katakutan then hindi dapat magworry. He should have thank millions of people who supported his show. THEN AGAIN...baka suntok sa buwan ang mangyari.

Two Of The Most Misunderstood Housemate Of PBB2

I've been watching Pinoy Big Brother since the first time it aired a few years back. I've never been a fan even when Sam Milby entered the famous house of Kuya. I never really watched it religiously. Most of the time, I read online from forums to forums regarding the issues inside the PBB house.

Lately, I've been watching and reading a lot of PBB Season 2. I don't think this is the BEST season of PBB but I must say this is probably one of the most controversial.

Wendy Valdez and Gee-Ann Abrahan, probably 2 of the most misunderstood housemates in all of the seasons of PBB. Why? Lemme point it out one by one...

Let me start with Wendy Valdez. I really don't like this girl. There's something fishy about her personality. I would never waste my hard earned money voting this girl but I don't hate her. I've been browsing different forums everyday and I've read a lot of rumors about her. Forumers are very vocal of their hatred towards this girl. She has been branded as "pokpok", "malandi", plastic, insincere, "wendydemonyita", "wendita" etc.. I could have listed a lot of the name calling thing pero I opted not to para hindi mafocus masyado sa kanya ang blog. Again, I don't hate her. She's one of the most misunderstood housemate this season.

Wendy Valdez was a former Bb. Pilipinas Tourism. She was also an aspiring singer who joined PDA but wasn't able to make it as a finalist. She also models for a certain agency with Bruce Quebral. I've read in another site that she even models for a certain clothing brand and has been in a lot of TV Commercials (although I must admit na I've never seen her face before in any commercial brands or maybe I'm not paying a lot of attention din). According to her, she's the breadwinner of her large family. She's a working student and she lives in the slums of Navotas. Their father left them and since then she became the "padre de familia". She works her butt off so she can finish school and at the same time help her family in their daily financial needs.

Her reasons are enough for the Filipinos to feel sorry for her. Her life story could be the reason for her to win PBB Season 2. Unfortunately, Wendy Valdez is not your ordinary girl. She's not your typical "mahirap na simpleng babae na gustong umahon ang pamilya sa kahirapan". She's a fighter. She's stubborn, hard headed and a bit mean. She likes getting her way and because of that, it made me think a lot of her life story. Her lifestory does not fit her personality at all. She's acting like a spoiled brat all the time. For someone who said na she's "hirap sa buhay" and she wants to help her family financially....then howcome she's acting like she's a primadonna from hell. It really made me think.

Then it came to me....Wendy Valdez is strategizing. She wants to win therefore she will do everything to be noticed. I also believed na she planned everything or at least she's aware of her actions inside PBB. I remember her first interview before she entered the PBB house. She said she wants to be an actress and she wants people to love her once she's inside the PBB house. Her plan failed when people started hating her. She found out about it when she got eliminated. So when she was given an opportunity to come back she started strategizing. My guess is since she's not really that likeable, she decided to play the "magpakatotoo Keanna Reeves" line. She thinks that if she acts like how Keanna Reeves acted in PBB Celebrity Edition people would think she deserves to win. She believes na acting "magpakatotoo" inside the house could be her main fuel in winning the prizes of PBB Season 2. I have to admit na she is really desperate to win. The only problem is that she's not Keanna Reeves. Keanna was loved by a lot of viewers because of her easy going attitude. Wendy is not an easy going housemate. She's not Keanna Reeves.

I know she's not a bad person but she's not a saint either. I can tell na she's a bit mischievous. I believe na she wants what is best for her family and I know that inspite of all the dramas inside the PBB house lately....she's just playing the game. She's strategizing her way to Big 4. It just so happen na there are some things that she couldn't control. Her plan somehow backfired that is why she is acting a bit freaky for the past few episodes. She's desperate to win and she can't think straight. SHE WANTS TO WIN BADLY FOR HER SAKE AND FOR HER FAMILY. A good cause but a bad way of showing it to the people. BUT THE AGAIN...who knows maybe she planned the whole thing din since she also wants to become an actress. Who knows for sure....but I do believe that she is one of the most misunderstood housemate this season.

NEXT...Gee-Ann Abrahan.

Okay, I'm a fan but If I have to choose who will win this seaon, I will picked Mickey Perz. Gee-Ann is also a misunderstood housemate this season. She's so passive. Her personality is so weak. She's a pessimist and a martyr. She's a crybaby. Lahat ng characteristic of someone na so fragile and weak na sa kanya which makes her adorable and at the same time a bit irritable. I love Gee-Ann because she's sweet, intelligent, very pretty, classy and well mannered. She came from a good family background and she's rich but by just watching her for about 4 months inside PBB you can tell that she's a down to earth person. She's very easy going. I like her attitude but sometimes she ticks me off. I hate it when she's acting passive. I want her to voice out her opinions not to BIG BROTHER but to everyone inside the house esp. to Wendy. She's always scared and that's her main problem. Sabi nga ni Kuya...in reality there's no confession room, there's no big brother and there will be a lot of Wendy Valdez in real life. She will have to face all of those again and she needs to learn how to fight back. Fight back in an educated way. There are a lot of ways for you to do so others would stop bullying you.

Gee-Ann needs to fight back. She needs to learn how to handle those WENDY types. She needs to be more vocal about her opinions and her feelings. The main reason why she's always crying is that she has no confidence at all and to think she's a cheerleader. I mean cheerleaders are born leaders, loud and very opinionated. In all movies, usually cheerleaders are projected as mean. Gee-Ann is a cheerleader but way different from the norms. Her being passive sometimes makes me want to turn off the TV. She could have prevented a lot of pains and troubles if she only stood up for herself instead of crying lang. I know it's not easy and there are people talaga na tulad nya but she's what??? 21...she has to learn grow up. Part of growing up is learning to stand tall, to fight back and to be tough. She can't always cry and use another PAMELA as her outlet.

She could have been a contender for the PBB Winner this season. People loves her. The problem is yung love sometimes nagiging awa instead of admiration. It's important na in order to win dapat the WINNER must be a whole package of good personality and charisma. We love Gee-Ann because she's an underdog and that is a fact. I admire her for being calm and well mannered but like what I said there are some qualities of her that I really hate. I must admit na I like for her to win only because she's nakakaawa and of how Wendy and her posey treated her badly. Instead of admiring her characteristics sometimes mas tumatatak sa isip ko na underdog sya that's why I like her.

Parang movie lang yan. I want my lead actress to be a fighter and a good person at the same time. I don't want to see my lead actress being maltreated by others. Ayokong awa lang it won't make me feel good. Maybe that is the reason why I want Mickey Perz or Beatriz Saw to win. They both have good personalities, not the WENDY TYPE nor the GEE-ANN TYPE. I admire them for being a good example of our YOUTH today.

Wendy and Gee-Ann are 2 of the most misunderstood housemates. They are totally opposite. They have different reasons on why they joined the show and why they want to win. They both showed their true colors. Wendy tried her best to be likeable to the people. Gee-Ann tried her best to be likeable to all her housemates. Gee-Ann's lifestyle is Wendy's dream that's why from the very first day she is insecure of Gee-Ann. Wendy's toughness is the source of Gee-Ann's admiration towards this girl. She idolizes her for being so tough at such a young age. She wants to be just like her. Gee-Ann's admiration towards WENDY was the reason why Wendy hate her and why people hate WENDY. Wendy's insecurities about Gee-Ann's lifestyle was the reason why Gee-Ann is always crying every episode (an underdog) and why we love GEE-ANN.

I guess....they have this LOVE AND HATE Relationship inside PBB house. They both want to prove something to everybody. It just so happen that they both failed. I am a Gee-Ann Fanatic but I still want her to change her ways. I want her to grow up. I don't hate Wendy because I know underneath that bitchy persona is a good person with a big heart. I'm just hoping that she'll have an attitude overhaul so her rep will have a fresh start again. They both might not win this season but I'm pretty sure that if they decided to join the BIZZ world then may kakalagyan sila.

To this two...you both made the PBB Season 2 controversial. If not for the 2 of you...the show would have been a bore to people like me. In a way CONGRATULATIONS because the 2 of you made your mark in PINOY REALITY TV. I doubt it if people will forget the 2 of you.
